Our research proposal titled “Empowering the Lifestyle and Well-being of Eastern Asian Elders with intelligent IoT” has been proved by the JSPS A3 Foresight Program.
The goal of this research is to effectively exploit intelligent IoT technologies to empower the lifestyle and wellbeing of elderly in East Asian countries. To achieve this goal, we gathered together the top researchers in the corresponding professional fields from Japan, China and Korea to conduct collaborative research for the following objectives.
(1) Intelligent sensing technology study
The first objective is to study novel AI algorithm-driven sensing technologies for the physical activities and social connectzions as well as the living environment of the elderly. These technologies will allow us to develop IoT systems to collect long-term data to understand the life style and status of the elderly.
(2) Comprehensive data analytic study
The second objective is to conduct studies on the collected data, with the expectation to find underlying correlation in the physical-social-environment data matrix to understand the physical-mental and social status of the elderly, so as to detect emergent events like heart attack and predict health risk.
(3) Elderly’s wellbeing promotion service study
Thirdly, we will explore to integrate our developed technologies, according the corresponding requirement in each country, to develop Intelligent IoT services, including elderly care, social support and etc., improve the wellbeing of the elderly given the specific characteristics of the three East Asian countries.
(4) Study on platform and security IoT smart home technologies for elderly people
Finally, we will also conduct collaborative study on novel IoT technologies, where the objective is to enable the technologies and systems developed above to be efficient implemented and deployed in homes of elderly people. Meanwhile, novel security studies such as intrusion detection/protection systems will also be conducted in this project to protect the IoT systems in the elderly’s homes, where the specific requirement of the elderly will be taken into account.
The period of this project is from 2020 to 2025, where a number of collaboration events including research exchange and workshop will be held.
